News Corporation has confirmed it's splitting into two companies, separating its publishing division from its entertainment assets and hoping to complete the changes within 12 months.

Rupert Murdoch will serve as chairman of both companies and chief executive of the entertainment arm, with a new chief executive appointed for the publishing division. The announcement comes in the wake of the phone-hacking scandal, which led to the closure of News of the World.
